Heinrich Fehrenkötter (born on 15 March 1900), farmer's son from Münsterland, grew up with three sisters and as schoolboy he wanted to be a dentist. But this was not to be. The parents wanted rather that he continued agriculture. However, Fehrenkötter jr. recognized early the lack of transportation possibilities on the lowland, where a railway connection was missing. In 1929 he decided together with his friend Wilhelm Lückewerth from Sassenberg to establish a forwarding company.

The first truck was a five-tonner from Krupp with petrol engine and 90 PS. The maximum speed amounted only 37 kilometres per hour. The both partner seperated after two years and everyone walked hisown path.

Even if the first truck of Heinrich Fehrenkötter, the five-tonner with petrol engine under the long hood, was a right purchase decision and could stand up in the everyday transport the transportation requirements, it was overstrained for interurban use and long-distance traffic transports. So 1935 the first Büssing came from Braunschweig, a six-tonner hooder for ten tons of total weight. He was lacquered in the unique colour and furnished with a white rhombic ribbon. White rhombuses were at that time a symbol for the long-distance haulage.

With Büssing Fehrenkötter could improve his forwarding services and was able to expand his customer base. But the enjoyment of the long-distance traffic truck was interrupted in 1941 as Fehrenkötter received a drafting order for himself and his Büssing from Russia. Fehrenkötter came back 1944 from the war but his truck together with the trailer remained somewhere in Russia.


Heinrich Fehrenkötter did not let himself dissuade from his taken path as forwarder by the loss of his truck in the war. 1946 Heinrich Fehrenkötter took a pig from the agriculture of his parents into the trailer of a Miele Motorbike 98, a bundle of reichsmark in his bag and drove to the Büssing-Werk to Braunschweig with the aim of buying a new truck. At that time natural produces were welcomed at the truck plant and so Fehrenkötter drove back home with a new Büssing.

One of the bulk orders came from the worsted spinning mill of the brothers Rath in Sassenberg - shortly Gebrasa -, for whom he provided coal from Hamm and Dortmund. Raw wool for Gebrasa Fehrenkötter loaded at the Bremer wool combing works in the district Blumenthal. On the trips there the forwarder conveyed cement and other building material.

The circle of clients grew constantly and thus also the fleet. 1951 the Fehrenkötter fleet counted three trucks with trailers. The sons August and Willi were inter alia part of the drivers. Father Heinrich helped as driver when the chauffeur capacity was busy. But full-time the head took care of the order procurement.




After his apprenticeship at the Büssing dealer Stahmer & Compagnie in Osnabrück also the third and youngest son Robert joined the company. He not only supported his father at the fleet management and maintenance he also produced new ideas in order to open up new business opportunities. So Robert Fehrenkötter who was 25 years old at that time got the desired special permit for Berlin traffic and henceforth the Fehrenkötter trucks drove also through GDR to west Berlin.

In the course of the 60's senior partner Heinrich Fehrenkötter retreated gradually from the management and in 1969 he entrusted son Robert and his wife Ursula with the management of the company.

Heinrich Fehrenkötter died in 1971 with 71 years of age and left the Junior and his wife a solid grown and booming company with development potential.

Robert Fehrenkötter developed the company further. In 1973 he let manufacture the first plateau truck according his ideas and plans in order to transport caravans and agricultural machinery. At first it were especially caravans which he transported for Sauer (heute LMC) in direction north to Hamburg. Company Tempo-Vidal ensured back loading with lightweight transporters for customers in Rhineland. The first agricultural machinery customer of Fehrenkötter was the company Hagedorn in Warendorf.

When Robert Fehrenkötter got offered the Haulier Klose for a takeover he snaped at the chance without hesitating and expanded his own load capacity with further six red licenses as well as eight vehicles. Fehrenkötter opened an office in Twist at Warin-Kunststoffröhrenwerke in order to ship every day a volume of 20 trailers.


A significant date referring to acquisition of new customers is the year 1985 with three renowned new customers: Company Claas Landmaschinen, Daimler- Benz as the greatest European commercial vehicle manufacturer and the Maschinenfabrik Bernard Krone in Spelle. Fehrenkötter put further trucks into service. At the end of the 80's the fleet was grown to 52 own vehicles and 30 vehicle units of subcontractors. The specialisation on the transport of agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles with platform superstructures and special, custom-designed vehicle concepts build the basis for long-term business relations and further success. 

Similar to 1969, as the founder of the company has backed the right horse with son Robert by the succession, so the passing on of the company to the third generation was regulated. Together with his wife Ursula, who worked as finance expert in the company and appeared as contact point in all vital issues, Robert Fehrenkötter and she decided that the youngest of their three sons, Joachim will be the succession. After an aprenticeship at the forwarding company Weckerle in Stuttgart and study at Deutsche Außenhandels- und Verkehrsakademie (DAV) in Bremen he joined 1994 the parental company and could prove himself by the foundation of a subsidiary in Nürtingen in 1996.

1997- heute

What was systematically planned and carefully prepared on the permises of Fehrenkötter could be realised as from 2001: the building of a new forwarding plant on a large area of 40.000 square meters in Ladbergen - in direct neighborhood to the highway A 1 southwest of Osnabrück. After seven months of construction time the forwarding company which was created according to the latest aspects of transport logistics with management, warehouse, social rooms and a large vehicle parking space was opened.

2004 Fehrenkötter founded a new branch of business: the placement of personnel services. The service of placed temporary staff ranges from assistant in the production up to engineers with different fields. This branch of business shows great success since its foundation till today and a constant growth. Today Fehrenkötter personnel services are represeneted with subsidiarys in Ibbenbüren, Gütersloh and Senden
